It's all a matter of perspective

I wonder how clear this picture appears to you? A bit blurry, out of focus and perhaps it is not immediately obvious what you are looking at?
If we take a step back, it seems a little different and maybe makes a little more sense? A close up of a slipper limpet. Still a bit unfocused though.

If you look carefully at the images below, you will observe the same shell in each photograph. However, when the angle of the photograph is changed, things can appear remarkably different. Creating some distance can change our perspective.

Have you ever had that sense of 'not being able to see the wood for the trees'? In challenging and emotive situations, it can be very tricky to get a clear view of things and creating a little distance can change our perspective.
Finding a way to zoom out of the immediate situation can be a useful way of distancing ourselves from the emotion, looking at alternative perspectives and being more objective. Is there a possibility that something from our past has affected our response or judgement in the here and now? What advice would we give if this had happened to a close friend? Is it possible to press pause before responding?

At www.getselfhelp.co.uk you will find a copy of the worksheet below which you may find useful if you are struggling with a particular situation:

What are your thoughts about things now?
If a situation is troubling you, then a coaching session might be useful for you to help you re-frame events and plan next steps.
