Therapeutic Coaching
When you know you need to move forward —
but don’t know where to start.
Loss can turn even ordinary everyday tasks into enormous challenges.
There may be phone calls to make, decisions to take, practical things to organise and a life that somehow needs to keep moving — even when you don’t feel ready.
You may know that you want things to change, but feel completely overwhelmed by where to begin.
Therapeutic coaching combines practical, goal-focused coaching with the empathy, understanding and therapeutic perspective of a trained counsellor.
What is therapeutic coaching?
Coaching is generally more focused on the present and the future.
Rather than spending time exploring your whole history, we’ll concentrate on what’s happening for you now and what you would like to achieve.
We’ll break bigger challenges down into smaller, manageable steps.
The aim isn’t to give you a list of things you should be doing.
It’s to help you work out what matters to you, identify what might be getting in the way and find realistic ways forward.

Why “therapeutic” coaching?
My coaching is informed by my counselling training and experience.
That means I understand that sometimes there is more going on beneath the surface than simply needing to “get organised” or “set some goals”.
Grief, anxiety, low confidence, overwhelm and difficult emotions can all affect our ability to move forward.
We’ll take those things into account while keeping our work practical and focused on what you want to achieve.
When might coaching be helpful?
Therapeutic coaching may be useful if you are:
-
struggling to organise everything after a significant loss
-
feeling overwhelmed by everyday responsibilities
-
finding it difficult to make decisions
-
struggling to rebuild routines
-
lacking confidence about what comes next
-
trying to make changes but not knowing where to begin
-
feeling stuck and wanting to identify some practical next steps
-
ready to focus on what you want your life to look like moving forward
You don’t have to have a perfectly defined goal.
We can start with what’s feeling most difficult right now.
Small steps can make a difference
When everything feels overwhelming, thinking about the whole journey can make it even harder to begin.
Coaching helps us break things down.
We might identify one thing you’d like to change, explore what’s making it difficult and agree a small, realistic step to work on before our next session.
Then we’ll review what happened and decide where to go next.
There is no pressure to transform everything at once.

Counselling or coaching?
The simplest distinction is:
Counselling
Understanding what’s happening.
Counselling gives you space to explore your thoughts, feelings, emotions, experiences and the impact of what has happened.
Therapeutic coaching
Working out what comes next.
Coaching focuses more on the present and future, helping you identify goals and take practical steps towards them.
Sometimes one approach may be more appropriate than the other.
Sometimes the two perspectives can complement each other.
We’ll discuss this together rather than expecting you to make the decision on your own.
How long does coaching take?
Therapeutic coaching is generally shorter-term than counselling, often taking place over around 6–12 weeks.
The exact length will depend on what you’re hoping to achieve and what feels appropriate for you.
We’ll review your progress regularly so that the support remains useful and relevant.
A supportive space to move forward
You don’t have to choose between compassion and practical action.
Therapeutic coaching gives you space to acknowledge what you’re dealing with while also looking towards what comes next.
We’ll work together to turn an overwhelming situation into manageable steps — at a pace that feels realistic for you.

Not sure whether counselling or therapeutic coaching is right for you?
That’s completely okay.
The free exploratory call is a chance to talk things through and decide together what kind of support might be most appropriate.
